Since we have more family now here to celebrate Halloween with. I hosted a Halloween party. We have also opened our door to trick-or-treaters. This is our first in our new home.

The Year That Was - 2011

Last year I made a request to cut down my hours at work. Thanks to very considerate management, it pushed through. I lost a bit of income there in exchange for more precious family time. I’ve used the word ‘sanity’ a lot since I became a mom twice over. This new schedule has certainly had me keep mine. In fact it has paved for better much blessed year.

Happy Halloween

The ninja costume came in many pieces, including a mouth mask we didn't let him put on. Night before I had to quickly sew the hood and ties in place. Sushi had to wear his costume over his fleece jacket (5°C weather), so he looked like a sumo ninja. I couldn't stop laughing while dressing him.

We did only one block of Trick or Treating. Sashimi was new to this, otherwise we didn't really want that many treats. We didn't open our house to trick-or-treaters this year. Past years I was exhausted from just going up and down the stairs for every doorbell (split level house).

I was moved by this note left with the treats outside one house.

The boys picked one treat to have that evening. Including our Clown. We're bringing the rest of the treats home to share.

Halloween Shopping

I take the kids to Party Packagers each year to pick costumes for Halloween. Every year I also tell myself, I should make my own. Nah!

The shoppings trips have been more for Sushi, as Sashimi can wear the previous costumes of his older brother until he learns how to object. tsk tsk tsk. It’s the practical thing to do while we can, since these costumes would have been worn only once.

What a lucrative business for retailers selling Halloween treats, costumes, pumpkins and decorations at this time of the year. This is one side of Party Packagers - two of these walls of just costumes - where you pick and order, claim it on the other end of the store, and fit on aisle 5. Decision-making was easy. Sushi picked a cheap one. That's. My. Boy.

Costume is partial. I asked if he really likes to be Ninja or he picked that because it's cheap. He said he did not want me to spend "a lot of dollars" and also really wanted to be a Ninja after seeing Kung Fu Panda 2, The Karate Kid, and after a few classes of Karate in Summer Camp.

Ninja it is.
