Chourico a Bombeiro - smoked sausage set on fire in Bagaco (moonshine)

 

Frango no Churrasco - off-the-grill chicken with rice and parisienne potatoes.

 

Bife a Casa - house steak served with chip fries

 

Gambas a la Plancha - tiger shrimp sauteed in Stella Artois beer, herbs & spices.

 

They also have whole roasted pig.  It was sold out.

New Discovery

While cruising along the new neighbourhood for new restaurants, we chanced upon Ben Thanh Viet Thai Restaurant.  We knew we won't be here for the "Viet", rather the "Thai" dishes.  We ordered the set menu. Two solo sets.  While this may not be your true blue Thai cuisine, it didn't disappoint in portion, price and overall dining experience.  Not to mention it has a regal interior.  We most probably will go back again.

Tiger Shrimp Tom Yum, wonton soup, fresh shrimp roll & deep fried spring rolls.

Red Thai beef curry. The serving is good for 2 to 3... even 4, I think.

We ordered something not spicy for the kids - Mango Chicken - which turned out to be sweet chili. But Sushi enjoyed the mangoes.

The kids fought for their lives for these lychee dessert.

The mango pudding was okay.

Spring Rolls

If we don't have a particular cuisine in mind, Spring Rolls is our go-to. Some say it's not authentic Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Malaysian, nor Vietnamese. I say, that's Asian Fusion.

I would say their Spring Roll platter is the specialty, hence the name. I call it pretty.

Our must have is their Thai curry.


Sushi loves the Chicken Satay & Thai Mango salad.

For a change on our recent visit, we tried their Crispy Calamari. The generous serving did not disappoint.

If with company, we would go for their sit-down buffet. For $15.99/adult, it's about the same price you'd pay for a complete meal.

And still every dish comes with presentation.

That and the ambiance. Sometime that's enough reason to go back. Anyone?

Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Where making sushi becomes a way of life

at Sukiyabashi Jiro, 3-star Michelin, 10-seat sushi-only restaurant in Ginza subway. Where 20 pieces of sushi would cost you 30,000 yen (US$400), but is worth traveling to Japan to eat at this restaurant.

Fried Ice Cream

How big is the fried ice cream? The server said "softball." I'm glad my boys have played softball so I knew right away, we have to order 2 of this.

Nevermind that it is $7.95 a piece. There might be bloodshed at the restaurant if the 4 of us have to share fight over one.

See why? It's the coconut ice cream and the combination of hot, cold, crunchy and soft that makes this heavenly.

We ordered, among others, our all-time favourite Thai dish - the Red Curry chicken.

You can tell, I thought it was soup!

The kids had the Satay skewers of chicken with peanut sauce.

Sometimes I forget it is not my home. I pile the dirty dishes.


I love the interior, the decors, the ambiant music, and the sound of the waterfalls, it makes for an excellent dining experience even if the food's not the greatest. Make exception to the Fried Coconut Ice Cream and the Thai Iced Tea. I would go back for these two.

Like I haven't been there enough, I have another reason to go to Bubble Republic.

Since my last entry mentioning its Pork Intestine Vermicelli, I have already gone back twice. Have I said, it's only $3.99 a bowl?

This and the taro milktea with tapioca is heaven on earth Taiwan in Canada.

Besides Tempura

Tako Sushi in Mississauga might be your average Jap restaurant, but we like heading there to satisfy our Jap food craving, besides the accessibility, good service and lots of perks. Sushi, of course, wanted sushi, but he ended up eating from everybody's order. Sans the tempura.

Bubble Republic

For the love of Taiwanese street food, Bubble Republic has been our all-time favourite since we discovered it.

It has the best tapioca. Sorry, Bubbletease. It's not you.

I alternate between the Fried Chicken cutlet and Porkchop. And they consistently come with 3 kinds vegetable sides, fried egg, and 滷肉-topped rice. The combo comes with a small milk tea, or add $1 to upsize.

Sushi now needs an order all to himself.

Will try this on the next visit.

Five Guys

Not a huge fan of burgers. But had always wanted to sit-in at Five Guys, after my first visit, but it was to-go. I like the American diner feel. How the place looks raw while in and around are stacks of potatoes, boxes of peanut oil, and peanuts you can crack and nibble while you wait.

Grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, BBQ sauce and hot sauce on my Bacon Cheeseburger.

The kids had the grilled cheese sandwich. I forgot to take photo of the Cajun fries we ordered which came in a mound. It was pretty good, but it was too much you need to doggie bag 'em home.

I like how even the paper towel launcher in here is red. And nyar, I took photo of this instead =]

For Kids' Sake

Took the boys to watch Dr Seuss' The Lorax this weekend. Here they pose with Alvin and the Chipmunks.

For lunch Sushi wanted to try something different, and "not Chinese." We passed by a Red Lobster on the way to where we're supposed to have lunch.  And Sushi insisted we go there.  So Red Lobster it is.

Biscuits on the house. I heart freebies =]

Sushi craved for squid like he is expecting. So we had to order this. I find the Fried Calamari of Blue Mountain's Firehall Pizza Co. much better.

We shared the Maritime Lobster & Shrimp Trio (lobster tail, garlic-grilled shrimp, and lobster & shrimp mac 'n' cheese and the sides). Don't count the calories just yet.

How about Crab Linguini Alfredo to boot.

While Mr & Mrs Hotpot went deep fried and cream sauce overload here, Sushi came out most satisfied from this meal. And from the movie. This day was meant for the kids anyway.

Owl of Minerva

Owl of Minerva recently opened in Mississauga. Now we don't have to trek to Markham or North York for Gamjatang (Spicy Pork Bone Soup). The only good Korean we know where we are is Miga, but which is more popular for its BBQ. So, Gamjatang, you are no longer a world away.

And Dolsot Bibimbop.

Sushi who loves the banchan everywhere didn't like any of it here. All are red and spicy. What a downer.
